Proper care of surgical wounds is essential for optimal healing. Follow these steps:
● Clean the wound with water and mild soap once a day.
● Gently dry using sterile gauze (avoid cotton).
● Apply an antiseptic such as aqueous chlorhexidine or Betadine to the wound.
● Cover with a fresh sterile dressing each time.
Avoid massaging the scar during the early postoperative period to prevent reopening.
If you suspect an infection (fever, persistent wound discharge, pus, etc.), consult a specialist before taking antibiotics, as infections in bones or around implanted materials (plates, screws, or prostheses) may require surgical intervention.
